Wynwood Droughtmaster Beef Cattle Stud was registered with Droughtmaster Stud Breeders' Society in 1965 (Stud No.36) and was founded on Kelso and Vet School bloodlines.

Three generations of the Irwin family have always placed strong emphasis on selecting high fertility, docile, easy care, productive beef cattle suited to the needs of the Australian commercial cattle breeder.

We use AI regularly, that we may sample the best of available Droughtmaster genetics and also ensure good herd linkage for Droughtmaster Group Breedplan for benchmarking purposes.

Quality Control

Whilst promoting the benefits of Droughtmaster Group Breedplan, we also recognize the importance of combining structural soundness, reproductive performance and enhanced meat quality attributes with measurable genetic gain. We are also building up a DNA Marker profile within the herd as we believe this technology will provide great future benefits. All this ensures an overall balanced and scientifically monitored selection program.

We collect and submit data for all the currently reportable Fertility, Growth, Calving Ease and Carcass traits.

We provide clients with Temperament, Sheath Score and EBVs as well as a full Health profile on each stud animal sold.

Most of our bulls are sold privately as yearlings off grass - hopefully giving the purchaser an extra year of use - unhindered by the adverse results of grain feeding for sales.

In summary, we try to live up to our 'Breeding Better Beef' motto by 'taking some of the guesswork out of bull buying'.
